Portals are basically websites that can offer information from diverse sources and in addition to that they may or may not provide the users with web services. A good example is Yahoo which provides information of diverse nature and also provides the user with basic internet services such as search engine, email etc.
Portals have now evolved a lot and now businesses have customized portals for their specific uses which include their use by the employees, customers, partners and shareholders. These portals are called enterprise portals and have been welcomed wholeheartedly by the business houses. A new category has also come up and it is known as Job Portal which provides job seekers information on available jobs.
The businesses are focusing on both the B2B portals as well as the
B2C portals. A B2B portal allows only authorized user to access information. The B2B portals store confidential information which is only accessed by authorized persons.
